I know that we all know "The Reason for the Season" as the saying goes. This time of year we should reflect on the true meaning of Christmas...that Jesus Christ was born, but more than that...he was sent to SAVE US. I admit it, I get WAY too wrapped up in gift-giving, Santa, Christmas lights, holiday food, toy shopping, Etc. Sometimes I forget that all of that is just "stuff" that over-shadows what I really should be focused on. I have been trying really hard to talk to Mason every day about the above manger scene. I love that he points out "baby Jesus" moreso than the other figures...though he does have an obsession with the sheep too. Maybe there is some symbolism there OR maybe he just really loves sheep. Anyway, I am writing this post to remind MYSELF the true meaning of Christmas. The part that I should be focused on. What do you do that really focuses on Christ's birth in your homes? For your children, so that they too can focus on "baby Jesus"?

we are in the same boat. trying really hard to point to him during this time. yesterday, i read the christmas story from the bible and we acted it out with our nativity figurines. one day, we will do some crafts that revolve around stars and i'll talk about the star that led the shepherds to Jesus. we will also do a birthday party for Jesus. and we've decided to do 3 small gifts for each person in our family. that way things don't go over the top. and it is supposed to represent the gold, frankincense and myrrh. next year, for sure a jesse tree. google it. you will love the devotionals and the symbolism in the tree decorations. our boys should be at a perfect age for it next year.
Yea for little people Nativity. We've loved ours this year as well. One thing we started last year and I hope to continue is we have a Happy Birthday Jesus Party and invite L's friends to that. We have a cake and sing happy birthday just as if a "regular" happy birthday party. Like you, we are reading books about Jesus' birth on Christmas and playing and talking a lot with the nativity. Great work girl!! I hope this is a great one for you guys.
